We recently assisted one of Alberta’s largest timber management companies to alleviate issues surrounding discrepancies in protected area quotas. Our strategy was to identify similarities and differences between areas with potential to serve as surrogates for protected areas. The study was scientifically structured and applied comparative statistics to assess differences in the relative abundance of breeding songbirds, vegetation and biogeoclimatic variables.
